AUTUMN GROWS

Seasons fly along
Leaves are hanging on
Into the teeth
Of a keen Westerly
Branches seethe
But they don't give way

Through the high to the low
The autumn grows

Storms clouds gathering
In November skies
Bring rain to to feed the stream
It was nearly dry
All night long
Squalls arrive
Winds so strong
Branches sigh

There's boughs on the bridge now
River's on the rise
Raise the sluice downstream
They say there's more to come this way
Be safe, the autumn grows

Grassland dancing wildly in the breeze
The gulls have travelled inland
From the sea

Maybe talking to the trees
Of distant memories
When the elm trees ruled the ways
So stately
Now we drink to honour their legacy
And remember the good old days
As the wood fires burn away
To heat the place we stay

Storms still gathering
Far-off out to sea
They'll be with us
