WHAT BRINGS YOU HERE? It's a one night stand It don't mean that much I know, I found that out myself It's a two-way street not a motorway Well you know It's give and take, you take and take again And here you come again, so Hey, what brings you here? Hey, what brings you here? Brings you near? Brings you near? Three wrecks down from the broken lighthouse A slack tide and the chance of another try It's all that we can hope for Everyone knows everyone hurts Hey, what brings you here? Hey, what brings you here? Hey, what brings you here? Brings you here? Brings you here? It's a four-way tie for the best in show And you know It never had to be this way Five more miles to the rodeo And I hope to God you'll always be Hope to God you'll always be Hey, what brings you here? Hey, what brings you here? Hey, what brings you here? Brings you here? Brings you here? Hey, what brings you? Hey, what brings you? Hey, what brings you? Hey, what brings you here?

OUTLAW LIKE ME How we used to live tells me we existed On the dusty side of the bed learning to live No two-ways about it love was not a swear word All those years ago on a day without a yesterday Means of best escape From new-found land in Hell's Lane Frame by broken frame Private affairs in a public place There's malice in Blunderland Please don't understand How this gravity pulls you in We all chase shiny things Friends but not following The second-last rebellion Walk away with dignity And don't believe in an outlaw like me Don't believe in an outlaw like me Running from the source like an unhinged lunatic The physical effects of a primary instinct An island on the outskirts of the world is calling No standing at the back The water's slack not falling Try looking in the wrong place It could be anyone They'll kill you with confidence And stolen memories Architect of downfalls Banished to the high ground Walk away with sanity And don't believe in an outlaw like me Don't believe in an outlaw like me Don't believe in an outlaw like me Connected to the core with a chance of a disconnect The Age of Paranoia is a distant shipwreck

Return 03:12
RETURN I won't expect the world to change Lost in admirations gains I skipped the see-saw Skipped the see-saw Skipped it Freed and easy How could you turn it away? You just tease to please me You just tease to please me It's the home and the heart again It's been a long time Been a lonely ride I said I would return one day One day, one day, one day I said I would return I'm lost in circles Done it all again Skipped the freefall Held in sentimental chains Freed and easy Could you turn it away? Tease to please me I won't expect the world to change

CALL TO THE LIGHTS Sound of a mystery, she calls out to me Over the hills and vales I'm following Through these lives and times I go Far from the world I used to know This is a call to those who care This is a voice inside your head A call to the lights that will not shine I was a crowd of one, alone She found the silence in my own world Then it came to be Unexpectedly taking me places I'd never been Still remember the days of our life Before everything was changed I'm half awake, I made mistakes But I dared to dream Still the same, imperfect ways I'm just a simple machine I'm just a simple machine She said "If you come by these ways I will know you Stones in a circle I will show you Magic in the air you're breathing Nothing else comes close without believing" If you know what you've lost If you know what you want Then this is a call to those who care This is a voice inside your head A call to the lights that will not shine This is a call to you and I This is a reason for the life This is a love that will not die Don't give up, no don't give up Don't give up Still the same, imperfect ways I'm just a simple machine

A NOTE AROUND A ROCK I wrote a note Wrapped it around a rock Then threw it through The windows of your mind I made mistakes Cast them all to the wind Which blew in Through the doorway left behind I hope you had the chance to read it I hope you had the sense to not go through with it A memory changed Received through the static Just a sign Through the ether in this place I don't recall a thing we said now I don't recall a thing at all, no I don't recall a thing we said now I don't recall a thing at all I wrote a note Wrapped it around a rock Then I threw it through The windows of your mind I hope you had the time to read it I hope you had the sense To not go back to that hunting ground I hope you had the time to read it Don't make the same mistakes I don't recall a thing we said now I don't recall a thing at all, no I don't recall a thing we said now I don't recall a thing at all I wrote a note around a rock I hope you had the chance I wrote a note around a rock I hope you had the chance to read it Don't make the same mistakes

VOID WITHIN A VOID Are they closer than you think now? Slowly edging to the brink now They see you as you were, not now And that's the truth They took you back And then they broke you down That's how they knew Who you are A void within a void A cure within a cure A lie within a lie Show them everything you still believe in Slowly, they're gonna reel the baited hooks in A void within a void A cure within a cure A lie within a lie Listing, like the world is on it's last legs Acting like you're living on the sharp edge If there's something else It ain't Heaven or Hell That much is known The cost of war ain't what it was before And now they know Who you are They'll see you when the time is right Click to agree And they'll fill you With every single drug you'll ever need They told you that nothing's gonna change now Made this the final re-arrangement And they see you as you were, not now And that's the truth They broke you down And then they got you back That's how they knew Who you are

STEADY AS YOU GO I'm rolling through the tree tops I can see her there below Kicking up the leaves And leaving footprints as she goes Take it steady as she goes As she goes She goes through the meadow Looking up into the skies Dreaming of a future day Never questions why She takes it steady as she goes She takes it steady as she goes Now and then I see her Walking through the glades of green I'm longing to be with her But I've never understood my dreams I take it steady as I go I take it steady as I go Take it steady as she goes Take it steady as you go Just take it steady as you go No need to race the river 'Cause that's not how it flows That's the only thing I know

THE BEECH & THE BARN We took the sunken lane To the barn up on the hill And in a beech tree carved our names I guess it's standing still We spoke of future dreams Confessed to hidden scars Picked apart our seams As we slept beneath the stars And in the morning we awoke We made a secret den Then took the path back home We've not returned since then It took a hundred days Until the autumn helped us feel We built a circle in the ley I guess it's standing still Awoke in tangled dreams We carried them for days Heard another meaning As we reached a different place In the twilight by the mill We found a secret world Then we shuttered down the wheel It hasn't turned since then We shook the drunken haze Of a cold December chill And in the spaces lost our way I guess we're standing still We joked of broken dreams Confused our hoping minds Danced around our feelings As we reached for distant times In the evening we retired We made a secret pact And then we watered down the fires They haven't burned since then

SAW THE DOOR WAS OPEN Well I won't know where I'm going 'til I get there And I won't know where I've been Until I check the maps and double back again Well I won't know what I'm doing 'til I've drunk this And I won't know what I'm feeling 'Til I've slept it off and start it all again Start it all again All this talk about what we're doing now Try to figure out all this stuff inside my mind again Well I didn't know where I was until I met you Now you and me are both lost But damn the cost - I'd do it all again Yeah, I'd do it all again All this talk about what we're doing now I can't figure out all this stuff inside my mind again Where we going now? We should work this out, there's a way somehow All this means too much to walk away All this means too much to walk away There we go, there we go There we go, there we go Well I do believe we fell for this the first time So don't forget to answer when I call 'Cause I saw the door was open Then I walked right through to the other side And I said: "I'm coming back Back here again - yeah, I'm coming back" All this means too much to walk away There we go, there we go There we go, there we go There we go, there we go There we go, there we go

SELF ELECTED KEEPERS We are the self-elected Keepers of the peace We've got a job to do We're looking out for you You'd better keep your head down We've got our missiles aimed at you Don't like the fact you've got one too We're coming round to you We're gonna keep your head down And it's all for profit But don't let it be known These arms won't sell themselves Without a show We've got war planes in your skies And our tanks are on your highways Running on The fuel we stole from you We've got our beady eyes on you We're watching everything you do We're coming back for you We're gonna kick your head in And it's all for profit But don't let it be known These guns won't sell themselves Without a show We've got war planes in your skies And our tanks are on your highways Running on The fuel we stole from you And we're all for prophets But don't let it be known These souls won't save themselves Without a show 'Cause the leaders don't agree With the way you keep the peace In your own back yard We are the self-elected Keepers of the peace We've got a job to do We're looking out for you You'd better keep your head down

About You 03:20
ABOUT YOU Call me when you want Tell me where we go now I'll be your saviour You'll be my princess Together we'll rule 'Cause I go on walking Through every place We go always on And I'm talking to you Love All about you It's all about you It's all about you It's all about you You're everywhere I'll never know But I'll be the light to guide you As you go As you go It's all about you It's all about you It's all about you Tell me your fears when We make it to where we're going I'll be your question You'll be my outcome Together as one We'll tell them all about it You know it's all about you It's all about you It's all about you It's all about you

about

"I often noodle around on a guitar whilst watching late-night science and nature documentaries. Every now and then a musical idea arises, so I pause the program and record it into my laptop.

Eventually I took stock of the accumulated sketches and often got re-inspired by them, layering further ideas on top.

This 'studio jamming' process is the polar opposite of writing a batch of tunes on a guitar and then recording them. Instead, songs develop in a multi-layered environment; they evolve in different ways.

In short, I made some new tunes, called the album Simple Machines, then sent it to Spotify, iTunes, etc."

All songs written, performed, produced and mixed by Jason Allen.

Recorded January to October 2018 in Somerset, England.
