NOTHING'S WRONG He was the captain of his ship When the weather Gods sent the waves that hit Courses run, white horses rage again Heavy seas are the making of the man Meanwhile, half a world away She didn't send the message to him The bottle wasn't empty Nothing ventured, nothing gained No rescue made, no souls were saved And what she says now And what she means What he's hearing and what he sees What he's realising is Nothing should be fixed if nothing's wrong Nothing's wrong The search for living proof Of signs of life goes on He knows life protects the lonely Lost in solitude, he's strong Nothing is wrong Tides retreat and then come forward Wreckage washed upon the beach Footprints in the sand but not a trace of him He made his mark on worlds That she can never leave What she does now What she feels What she wanted And what is real What she's realising is Nothing can be fixed if nothing's wrong Nothing's wrong Nothing's wrong Nothing's wrong © 2019 Jason Allen

THESE PEOPLE KNOW THEIR PLACE There's a band in the local Friday night Playing Wonderwall While the kids in the park Are choking down nitrous in the rain And it's Big Fight Night On the council estate Domestic issues spilling out on the street It's just another day in the life Of a town that time forgot They shut the factory down Before they closed the mine They understood the cost of land And built cheap Knee-jerk tweets blowing Far and wide on the wild west wind Everyone stuck in the traffic On the way to town These people know their place Retirement homes full of broken bones and dreams again Spirit of the Blitz ain't what it was in the good old days They heard the engines roar before they saw the flames They understood the sacrifice and fought back So they kept coming on strong Cos they had nowhere to run Coming on strong Til the freedom here was won And they would never tolerate these days These people know their place This town could make these people great Start again, lose the hate But no-one knows the time of day In the corner of a field by the river On the bank there's an inscription On a memorial stone to the lost souls on the way "There is nothing but this moment There is nothing but today" No social mediation These people know their place These people know their place These people know their place There's a band in the local Friday night Playing Wonderwall © 2019 Jason Allen

WILD FLOWERS NEVER GROW IN ROWS If you see me Down by the river Just keep walking I got things on my mind I've been wandering Looking for the answer I've been questioning the things That are bothering me Where does love come from? Where am I going? Who the hell decides I should live that way? If there's one thing I know Wild flowers never grow in rows, no Wild flowers never grow in rows So if you see me Taking the long way home Just keep walking I got a tune on my mind So I keep finding faith That I'm holding the right line And I'll be welcoming the things That are comforting me Yeah, I'll be welcoming the things That are comforting me Where does love come from? Where am I going? And who the hell decides We should live that way? 'Cos if there's one thing I know Wild flowers never grow in rows Wild flowers never grow in rows It's just a case of live and let be Find a little more harmony © 2019 Jason Allen

THE VERY DEFINITION The kind of snake that calls An honest man a thief A devil in the detail A king amongst the cheats Sold his soul as real estate Built happy homes to house the hate The very definition of The Man The kind of woman You were twice warned to avoid She's hollow and she's poisonous She's every kind of void Sold herself to pay the bills Unhappy homes need happy pills Her bad news is a boosted post To reach the ones that care the most The very definition of The Woman Forces building at the border Here's the New World Hey! Who ordered? Sixteen digit number freaks They'll take your details every week Sold their souls as real estate Built happy homes to house the hate Take what's theirs and then what's yours But it's fair game in the love of war The very definition of The People © 2019 Jason Allen

The Way Back 04:07
THE WAY BACK It was so long ago, back when we were young Your face was unknown and you came here all alone Down from the hill we walked All along this song faded through It was all we ever knew I can never honestly say what we should've done Yesterday went to the wall, now You and me could walk that way again But that was way back, babe I could take all the pain There's nothing like playing the long game once again But the storm won't carry you home Carry your hopes or carry you on I warn you Years go by but we never let go of the past here A37 on a sunny Saturday and I'm always there The open road's the only way to go It's a way back, babe This could go all the way Something 'bout sinning and weakness all again And if the the storm can't carry you home Carry your hopes or carry you on Maybe I will do She said: "Meet me down by the riverbank Cover your tracks dear Old memories of a sunny Saturday never disappeared And all I can say will never change the way I think about us" And yet the storm might carry us home Carry our hopes, carry us on Yeah the storm might carry you home Carry you home to me There's a way back, babe There's a way back, babe There's the way back, babe There's a way back, babe © 2019 Jason Allen

Don't Change 02:35
DON'T CHANGE I know myself, do you? More than I know you We own ourselves in isolation All they said came true All you got, you wanted it this way Are you sure you wanted him to stay? You're all we got, the light that leads the way And you go always on don't change Go always on don't change Memories of yesterday Found in pieces lost along the way Ended up in some place helpless All we know today All you got, you wanted it this way Are you sure you wanted him to stay? You're all we got, the light that leads the way And we go always on don't change Go always on don't change Go always on don't change Don't change Don't change © 2019 Jason Allen

STATE OF CALM We we're travelling Down through France and into Spain Across the Pyrenees in February freezing rain Oh it was getting pretty cold We kept driving on Climbing up that mountain pass Worrying 'bout what was next Thinking we'd run out of gas Oh, I guess we made it to the top Those wheels kept rolling Across the plain Through the border towns With the music playing on So we settled on The southern shores of Portugal Nothing much to do at all Mazie days and lazy ways The sun goes wall to wall each day We were lost in time We had nothing but the state of calm We carried in our minds Freedom changes every mind Forget about the daily grind Find a place to find some time A hundred days we pushed on Down the open road to nowhere No-one knows we're driving there at all We had nothing but the state of calm We carried in our minds Went northward bound up the coast Cantabria still bathed in snow Sailing back across the Bay Sit and watch the ocean go Time on our hands to think about the days Wish we could go back to that place And find a state of calm Find a state of calm We can find a state of calm © 2019 Jason Allen

UNATTENDED CASE When you held my hand and we stared into the sky Wild open country sweeping past our eyes Nothing else existed except the moment as it was As we promised us a future set aside Set aside We left that future in an unattended case We chased the perfect sunset In a car that had no brakes We left broken promises Where the hands of time can reach Take it from me Leave it there, we're done You put your faith in my hands And I one day put it down In a place I forgot Like a fleeting memory Someone else existed Second chances rose like sun A broken promise future A heart that left alone A broken promise future A lesson left behind Don't leave your future in an unattended case Don't place your hope in the hands Of a love that won't escape Those secret wishes on the shelf Where the dust of time collects There's only one performance of this life And when it's gone it's gone You don't get a second try That much I know Kissing lips that truth will never tell Boarding ships that were never meant to sail Waiting for the wind that will never come Forsaking everything for the sake of one For the sake of one Don't leave your future in an unattended case Please don't chase the perfect sunset In a car that's got no brakes Don't leave your wishes on the shelf Where the hands of time can reach Take it from me Leave it there, we're done Speaking words that are never heard Teaching lessons that are never learned And we're hoping for a change to raise it's head Opportunity will come once again That's right! Feel it coming now © 2019 Jason Allen

CARRY THE ONE Say the word I'll be there Tell me what I wanna hear Say the word I'll be there Tell me what I want to hear all night Am I seeing what I wanted? Not what was really there And when the storm broke I was hiding in the back room And when the flood destroyed the bridge I was four weeks early, overdue Let the future be For the sake of you and me And when it all adds up, I I will carry the one Carry the one It's mine The world is mine to keep From nothing something's happening Destiny has stepped my way On my way And when the storm broke I was hiding in the back room And when the flood destroyed the bridge I was four weeks early, overdue Let the future be For the sake of you and me And when it all adds up, I I will carry the one Carry the one I was waiting for the one To knock me off my feet But I was already laying down next to you Now if there's bread to be won For the sake of the son I will carry the one I will carry the one And when the storm broke I was hiding in the back room And when it all adds up, I I'm gonna carry the one Carry the one I will carry the one I'm gonna carry the one © 2019 Jason Allen

OLD LONESOME CROW I call to you old lonesome crow To tell me what it is you know Watching from your lofty throne Over Nature's wonders there below I call to you, I call to you, I call to you I call to you, I call to you, I call to you I ask of you majestic bird To tell me what it is you've heard Floating on those cushioned therms As seasons pass and then return I ask of you, I ask of you I ask of you, I ask of you When the deeds of day are done And rooks they come to roost as one Chattering their news each one How do you find your silence? How do you find your silence? © 2019 Jason Allen

about

"I started working on the follow-up to Simple Machines in late December 2018. By June 2019, I was utterly disinterested in most of the 15 new songs that I'd written and recorded, so I decided to start again from scratch.

I spent all of August 2019 composing and recording more songs, with a new 'agricultural' approach. Four tunes from the earlier attempt were added to the new batch in remixed form. The result is Find Your Silence. It's organic and it's from the heart." - Jason Allen, September 2019.
